Listen to Obituary

Janice Eileen Reynolds (1935-2026) passed away peacefully in her sleep after a 6-year remission from ovarian cancer. In her own words, she had a “good run” during her 90 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Keith, her mother and father, Florence and Don, and her brother, Don.

She was born in a small town in Indiana where she developed a knack for numbers at her father’s side. Upon graduating from high school, she left with 3 girlfriends and moved to Hawaii. She lived there until moving to San Diego in the late ‘50s. She enjoyed the sun and beach life, and there she met her husband.

Together they had 2 children Jennifer and Valerie (Mike), 3 grandchildren, Amber, Dillon, Parker and 2 great grandchildren, Brayton and Record.

The family moved throughout the country for Keith’s work (Chicago, Escanaba, Rochester) finally ending up back in San Diego in the mid ‘70s.

In San Diego, she was the VP and Treasurer of a successful printing supply company, applying her friendly, firm attitude towards collections, HR, and finance. She was also an excellent boat captain and angler catching tuna and marlin on their boat with family and friends.

Jan and Keith retired to Montana, then Elk Rapids, MI to be closer to grandkids. They built a home on Elk Lake and enjoyed the views daily.

After retirement, she took up golf again and gained a reputation for an excellent short game, winning chip-ins and low putts frequently. She also began her “career” as a mahjong diva. She enjoyed the game for the social as much as the competition and mental challenge. She played both golf and mahjong in Michigan and Punta Gorda, FL.

Her other passion was gardening. In Michigan, she would plan the plant choices so there were flowers blooming spring through fall.

She was known for her sincerity and friendliness. Everyone loved how truly nice she was. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a “greatest” grandmother. She left a meaningful impression on all who knew her. She will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 21st at the Edward C Grace Harbor Pavilion in Elk Rapids, MI from 1 pm until 4 pm. Refreshments provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance in her name. LINK TO DONATE
