Obituary

Janice Kay Shafer, 74, of Interlochen passed away peacefully at home with family and friends at her side. Janice was born on Dec. 2, 1947 to the late Claude and Irene (Gurney) Beatty in Muskegon, Michigan.

Janice grew up in Mesick where she was a majorette in school.

Janice met the love of her life, David W. Shafer, they joined in holy matrimony on Jan. 27, 1973 in Mesick.

Janice is survived by her sister, Gloria Watson, her loving husband of 49 years, David Shafer, daughter, Su Councilor, daughter, Amy (Chris) Kozacek , eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Janice enjoyed camping, reading, spending time in the Upper Peninsula and cooking. Janice's favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa James and brothers; Gerald and Todd Bromley.

A graveside committal service honoring Janice will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Mesick Sherman Cemetery, 5933 W. 16th Road, Mesick, Michigan 49668.
