TRAVERSE CITY — Jason Michael Shaw, 35, of Traverse City, died at home from various medical complications Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, 2012. Born June 11, 1976, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, he was the son of Michael D. and Sally M. (Hayes) Shaw.Jason attended Traverse City Central High School and Northwestern Michigan College.At the age of 14 Jason began working at the Omelette Shoppe of Traverse City and continued until his illness in 2002.Jason treasured his relationship with his family, both immediate and extended.He was truly motivated by his daughter, Ciera. She provided that special spark that inspired him to enjoy life and to keep going. She remembers him as a very patient, loving and kind dad who was always there lending a helping hand.As siblings, Jason and Ashley enjoyed their quality time they spent together since her recent return from California. His interests were vast and varied, as he relished participating in outdoor activities, especially hiking the Grass River Natural Area near Bellaire, reading and collecting comic books, listening to music, watching movies from his large collection of DVDs and his frequent visits to Top Comics and the library. Jason and Brooke always looked forward to their next adventurous road trip.Jason will be fondly remembered for his love of family, his understanding ways, his quiet demeanor and his ability to be a good listener.He is survived by his parents, Michael and Sally Shaw; sister, Ashley (Shaw) Tetzlaff; soulmate of 10 years, Brooke Kroush; his daughter, the love of his life, Ciera Shaw, all of Traverse City; uncles and aunts, Gary and Linda Shaw, of Holland, John and Christine Hayes, of Walker, and Judy and Ronald Mancao, of Carlsbad, Calif.; special nieces, Faith, Lily and Pixie; along with several cousins.Jason was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Glen Tetzlaff, who died in 2008; and his grandparents, Clarence and Maxine Shaw, William Hayes and Marie (Hayes) Arnold.Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service, at New Hope Community Church, 5169 Bethesda Court, Williamsburg, MI. Pastor David Standfest and Pastor Tim Manzer will officiate.It is suggested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Jason may do so by making a contribution to the Traverse Area District Library or to Grass River Natural Area.
