Jean Kathryn Comstock , nearly 93, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Orchard Creek Supportive Care with her children by her side.
Jean was born on December 22, 1929 in Fond du Lac, WI to the late Lawrence and Harriet (Wright) Nelson. They lived in Wisconsin and spent the summers in Harriet's hometown of Traverse City until moving to Traverse City permanently in 1941. Jean graduated from Traverse City High School in 1947. She worked for Les Biederman at WTCM for five years before she started raising her family.
On June 9, 1951 Jean married the late Joseph Wilmot Comstock at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Together they shared nearly 65 years before he passed away in 2016. Jean was a faithful member of St. Francis Church for over 70 years.
Jean and Joe loved to spend their time on the ski hills in the winter and on the open water on their boat in the summer. They also enjoyed playing golf at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. Jean was a member of the ladies 9-hole league for many years. In later years, Jean and Joe wintered in Pelican Bay, FL.
In her spare time Jean enjoyed cooking, painting, interior design and fashion.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Joe; daughter Mary; and grandson Mac Tyler.
Jean is survived by her children Michael (Marie) Comstock, Jody (Tom) Bergman, Thomas (Calina) Comstock, Casey (Becky) Comstock, Joseph Comstock II, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; niece Mary Alicia (Keith) Thompson; and son-in-law Tim Benedict.
Father Ken Stachnik will be leading the funeral mass on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church Building Fund.
