Jean Marie Durkin, 93, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 19, 2024. She was born to Carl and Sylvia Myers on March 30, 1930, and from an early age, demonstrated remarkable strength and musical talent.

Jean was a prodigy on the piano and had a deep love for playing the accordion. Her passion for music and the performing arts led her to dream of a career in show business. Throughout her life, she remained devoted to her musical pursuits, finding joy in sharing her talents with others.

Professionally, Jean worked as an Executive Secretary for the Superintendent of the public school system she served. Her dedication and professionalism left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community she served.

However, Jean's greatest joy came from her family life. She met the love of her life, Norman Durkin, in her teenage years, and it was love at first sight. Their bond only grew stronger with time, and they were married on September 23, 1950. Together, they were inseparable, sharing a deep and enduring love that was evident to all who knew them.

Jean and Norman were blessed with children whom they raised with boundless love, care, and understanding. Music filled their home each day, reflecting Jean's passion and creating cherished memories for their family. Jean's devotion to her children was unwavering, and she found immense joy in being a nurturing and supportive mother. Dancing with her husband brought her great happiness, and their love only deepened with time.

Jean Marie Durkin will be remembered for her unwavering strength, her love of music, and her devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and love that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jean is survived by her daughter Susan (Jeff) Durkin Alexander, her son Brian Durkin and all her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Norman J. Durkin and son Patrick Durkin.
