Jean M. Kratochvil

Jean Marie Kratochvil, 88, died peacefully September 22, 2021, at her daughter's home. She was born in Newberry, MI, on December 5, 1932, to F.J. (Pat) and Marie (Surrell) Taylor.
After graduating from Newberry High School, Jean attended St. Lawrence School of Nursing in Lansing and Northwestern Michigan College, where she received a degree in nursing.
On September 17, 1952, at St. Gregory's Church in Newberry, she married Dr. Richard Kratochvil. They owned and operated Grand Traverse Veterinary Hospital.
A fifteen-year volunteer at the Tri-County Health Department, Jean also served on the NMC Nursing Advisory Board. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister.
Throughout Jean's life, she enjoyed many athletic activities, such as tree climbing, ice skating, basketball, jogging, skiing, tennis, square dancing, and golf. In later years she enjoyed knitting, reading, and walking.
Jean is survived by her five daughters Ann (Tom) Post, Sue (Bernie) Moritz, Carol Kratochvil, Nancy Hogue, and Marie (James) Petges; grandchildren, Benjamin (Liz), Michael, Natalie (Bobby), Evan (Jen), Katie, Peter, Shannae, Marcus, Jenny, Tony, Rachel, Kyle, and Chris (Melissa); great-grandchildren James, Perla, Frances, Lucille, Davis, Devan, Sable and Skyler, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Dick, her brother Tom, and her grandson, Marquice.
A memorial service honoring Jean's life will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, 11:00AM, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM and continue until the time of service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City. The family kindly asks that masks be worn to help ensure the safety and well-being of all who attend.
