Our beautiful, funny, and fun mom, Jean Lorraine Meredith, passed away October 4, 2017.
Born in 1920 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Thomas and Crystal Borthwick, and the youngest of their four children, including Virginia, Robert, and Don.
She married our handsome, funny dad, Jim Meredith, on October 30, 1946 in Detroit. He pre-deceased her in 2001, 3 days after the 55th anniversary of their glorious marriage. Her children were thrilled when she joined her daughters in Traverse City, where she has lived for the past fourteen years.
She leaves behind her adoring children Jim Meredith (Robertta Lindeman) of Farmington Hills, Barb Meredith (John Arnold) and Mary Meredith of Traverse City, and Mike Meredith of Grosse Pointe Woods.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart, Nathan Hopkins and Rebecca Ruble (Steve Ruble) of Traverse City, Micha Meredith (Matt Fenn) of New York City, and Charlie of Grosse Pointe Woods; and her two great grandchildren, Leo and Max. Several nieces and nephews are also left to remember her.
The family will receive friends at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home 305 6th St., Traverse City, on Thursday, October 5, from 5 until 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will occur at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at St. Francis Catholic Church,1025 S. Union, Traverse City. She will be buried next to her husband at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff of French Manor South for the tremendous care and love she received for the past four months, and Hospice of Michigan for the care and love of our mom and the support of her family.
"When someone asks you where you come from, the answer is your mother. When your mother is gone, you've lost your past. It's so much more than love. It's more than anything else in your life."
For those desiring to make a memorial contribution in Jean's name, the family suggests that a charity of one's own choosing would be appropriate.
