Jeannette Marie Arnold

Jeannette Marie Arnold, 98, of Traverse City, completed her creative and loving earthly journey and continued her eternal walk of joy on October 23, 2017. Jean was born December 12, 1918 to the late Faron and Marie (Sopp) Hayden in Erie, PA.
Jean's youthful spirit, her optimism, her contagious smile and her perpetual happiness touched all who knew her. The glowing energy of Jean's life brought warmth and light to countless people. These gifts she so freely shared will forever be cherished by loved ones and friends. Jean's artistic talents shined in her 20 year career as an interior designer and buyer for McLaughlin's Furniture in Southgate, Michigan. Throughout her life, Jean was always learning and growing. She was an accomplished watercolor artist and sculptor, and was inspired by her worldly travels, after retirement, to China, Europe, and Mexico. Moreover, Jean was a true friend who encouraged and inspired the creative spirit in others - including her grandchildren and other artists. After moving from Dearborn to Traverse City, Jean became a longstanding volunteer at the Dennos Museum, and supporter of local charities. She loved great books (especially biographies of interesting women), enjoyed gardening, but most of all found great joy in being together with friends and family. Her memories will live on in the countless notes Jean would send, including her hand-painted Christmas cards shared all through the years with loved ones. Jean inspired every person she knew with her ability to see color, beauty and hope all around. Her vision of the future was pure and full of love.
Jean is survived and missed dearly by her four children; Thomas Arnold of Dearborn, Jeanne Kelly of Nashville, James Arnold and William (Alison) Arnold, both of Traverse City. Also surviving are her grandchildren; William Thomas Arnold of Dearborn, Daniel and David Kelly of Nashville, William John and John Kean Arnold of Traverse City; great granddaughters Erynn and Ava Kelly; sister-in-law Agnes Hayden; and loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Elaine (George) Haas, and her brother Donald Hayden.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate on Jean's behalf to Child and Family Services of Traverse City; 3785 Veterans Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.
The family will welcome family and friends to a Celebration of Life on Friday, November 24th from 1-5 pm at the home of Bill & Alison Arnold.
