Jed Joseph Warren left this world at the age of 52 after a brief battle with aggressive lung cancer. Jed was curious, caring, talented, goofy, funny and knew a little something about almost everything. Perhaps his most notable talent, the one that we all loved him for the most, was just being Jed.
He took off out West at 18 years old, with only a car, his few possessions and a healthy dose of curiosity and built a rich, fulfilling life for himself. While most of us stuck with the conventional wisdom of college, marriage and/or a career, Jed embarked on an adventure and literally created something out of nothing. That was Just Jed.
He did his best to live by the Golden Rule. He was known to drop everything to lend a helping hand to even complete strangers. He had a unique way of making you feel special and appreciated with his big hugs, his kind smile and his warm eyes. He could tell you ten different things with just his eyebrows, and he knew how to make you feel safe, comfortable or grounded by doing something as simple as building a fire, brewing you an insanely strong cup of coffee or taking the time to really listen. That was Just Jed.
He absolutely loved the outdoors, was passionate about fishing and hunting and had a deep reverence for and knowledge of all things growing. He particularly loved his nieces and nephews, was amused to see them do some of the same silly things that he did when he was a kid and was their confidant when they needed one. They affectionately called him Funcle (Fun Uncle) and Handsome (for his beautiful heart). He had a special place in his heart for his Aunt Lorrie and could often be found at her house doing chores and helping out with any number of projects. There are too many people to name here that Jed made feel loved in one way or another, he was good at that. They know who they are, because he had no problem telling them. That was Just Jed.
Jed will mostly be missed for the simple things that he did to make us laugh, to make us feel loved and to make our lives just a tiny bit more fun and bearable. He was taken too soon and will be missed more than words can express.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Keith and Jean Warren, his maternal grandfather Mel Schaub, his uncle Gary Warren, his grandniece Amaira and his beloved dog Ditch. He is survived by his maternal grandmother Marie Schaub, his parents, Mike and Linda Warren his brothers and sisters, Todd, Jason and Ariel Warren (Carpenter), their spouses, Deb, Melissa and Jim, his nieces, nephews and grandnieces, Gena, Peyton, Caitlyn, Jaren, Aiden and Zephie, his aunts and uncles, and his numerous cousins.
Jed will be cremated and his remains interred at Memorial Gardens in Traverse City. The family is planning a Celebration of Life at the American Legion Hall on the Old Mission Peninsula by Haserot Beach on July 22, 2023 from Noon – 3 p.m. Food and good memories will be served.
