Jeffery Jon Brown, 60, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 29, 2016 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Jeff was born on Sunday, November 13, 1955 in Redford Township, the son of John and Louise Margaret (Olson) Brown. Following his graduation from Redford Union High School in 1973, he continued his education for a short period before beginning his career in HVAC, which he did for a number of years. For the last few months, he was employed by Oleson's.

Jeff and his family summered here on Spider Lake beginning in the 60's. He permanently moved to the Traverse City area in the 1980's. He enjoyed playing hockey, playing on a men's league and also enjoyed playing baseball. He enjoyed playing his guitar, as well as boating and waterskiing. Jeff's passion was to spend time in the UP, enjoying the beauty of the area, especially Lake Superior. Jeff loved to camp and volunteered as a campground host at 12 Mile Beach, where he was scheduled to be in the next week. A member of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, Jeff was active in the church family there and served as a deacon. His greatest joy, and his overwhelming pride was for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Melissa May (Jason) McAllister of Traverse City, Mandi Lou (Travis Festa) Brown of Fife Lake, Chelsey Lou Brown of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Adrianna and Austin Kuhlman and Ellie Brown. Jeff is also survived by his siblings, Wendy Matthews of New Hampshire, Fredrick (JerriLynn Osmar) Brown of Traverse City, Bradley (Pam Schark) Brown of Kingsley and Bruce (Vickie) Brown of Traverse City, along with many nieces and nephews. Jeff is also survived by many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, JoAnn Rysztak.

A service celebrating Jeff's life will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster, Traverse City. Visitation will begin at the church one hour prior to the service.
