TRAVERSE CITY – Jeffrey J. Breithaupt, age 55, of Traverse City passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Jeffrey was born on October 2, 1963 in Traverse City, MI to John and Jean (Ockert) Breithaupt. Jeffrey grew up in Traverse City where he was a graduate of St. Francis High School. In 1981, Jeffrey was named all-state as a member of the St. Francis football team. Jeffrey was an all-around gifted athlete.
Jeffrey honorably served our country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1986 to 1989. He was a military police officer and security detail for a 4-star general. While stationed in Germany, Jeffrey enjoyed traveling and seeing as much of Europe as he could.
Jeffrey was proud to serve the community in which he lived by serving 10 years at the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's department. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially for Michigan teams, whether it be the St. Francis high school football team or the Detroit Tigers, he was a fan at heart. His family will never forget his sense of humor and the quick-wit he had about him.
Jeffrey is survived by his children; Zane Breithaupt, Jonathon Breithaupt, Stephanie Breithaupt, parents, John and Jean Breithaupt, siblings; Mike Breithaupt, Michelle Seward, and Jennifer (Joseph) Witkop. Jeffrey is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and was particularly close with his maternal grandmother, Marie Keaton.
Visitation for Jeffrey will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a rosary recitation beginning at 10:15 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am and immediately following the mass friends and family are invited for a lunch in the church fellowship hall. Jeffrey will be laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens following the luncheon at the church.
