Jerome Francis Peplinski

Jerome Francis Peplinski, of Maple City, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 25, 2026, at the age of 73.

Jerome was born in Traverse City, Michigan, on May 12, 1953, to Francis and Anna (Winowiecki) Peplinski. He graduated from Traverse City Senior High School in 1971. While still in school, he began working as an Inventory Associate through the cooperative education program at Eastfield Thriftway Market. He later worked as a welder and fabricator for Purvis Brothers before beginning a career with the Leelanau County Road Commission, where he served as a mechanic for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 2007.

On July 3, 1976, Jerome married Pamela Meteer. Together they built a life centered on family and welcomed their son, Andrew, in June 1982.

Jerome took great pride in restoring and giving new life to old vehicles, tractors, appliances, and just about anything others considered beyond saving. He believed that nearly everything deserved a second chance. One of his proudest accomplishments was the complete restoration of a vintage Chevrolet pickup truck, a two-year project he shared with his son, Andrew. Together they brought the classic truck back to life, creating not only a beautifully restored vehicle but also cherished memories and a lifelong bond.

He also spent countless hours cutting firewood, producing hundreds of cords over the years. A gifted craftsman, Jerome built the home in which he lived for the rest of his life alongside his father, with the support of family and friends. He was a man of remarkable skill, resourcefulness, and determination. While he was not always one to openly express his emotions, those who knew him understood that his love was demonstrated through his actions: in the way he cared for his family, provided for them, and encouraged them to strive for their best. His honesty, guidance, and high expectations reflected a deep and abiding love for those closest to him.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela; his son, Andrew (Corine) Peplinski; and his treasured two-year-old grandson, Oliver. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Bloom, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Anna Peplinski; his parents-in-law, Glenn and Shirley Meteer; his sister, Cynthia Draper; his brothers-in-law, John "Jack" Bloom and Eugene Draper; and his great-nephew, Zechariah Tanis.

Jerome will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his ability to repair almost anything, and the lasting lessons he passed on to his family through both his example and his actions.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City.
