Jerome "Jay" Scherr, age 90, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Jay was an alumnus of the University of Detroit Mercy, where he earned his business degree. He worked as a substitute teacher, did technician work for General Motors, and earned the very prestigious 300/500 Ford Sales Award almost every year of his auto sales career. Jay was a founding member of Brother Dan's Food Pantry. He was very active at the Petosky Library and was an avid reader. Jay is a U.S. Veteran, attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and enjoyed walking, gardening, and travel, especially to Alburquerque, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph & Helen (Socolski) Scherr; and siblings: Eugene Scherr, Delores Scherr.
He is survived by his children: Frank (Bonnie) Scherr, Mark (Jennefer) Scherr, Matthew (Cindy) Scherr, Kathryn (George) Hubbard, Lisa (Russell) Frahm; grandchildren: Dustin, Graham, Zachary, Geo, Joshua, Nicole, Brandon, Nicholas, and Chris.
Per Jay's wishes, his remains have been donated to the University of Michigan for medical research and no formal services will be held. Memorial contributions may be given in Jay's honor to Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, MI.
