Obituary

Jerome Slack, 94, of Traverse City passed away peacefully at Munson Hospice House on Saturday, July 20, 2013. He leaves behind a legacy of giving to education through the D. Jerome and Margery C. Slack Educational Foundation.

Jerome was born on September 28, 1918 in Mesick to the late Charles LeRoy and Ida (Oatley) Slack.

Jerome honorably served in the United States Air Corps during WWII.

On August 17, 1977 Jerome married Margery. Together they have enjoyed a full life filled with love, family, multiple celebrations and winters in Florida. Jerome was a successful business man and entrepreneur, developing multiple unique business ventures. He was also a business consultant to foreign governments.

Jerome was a long time member of the First Congregational Church. He served as the treasurer for 19 years and also sang in the church choir. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Rotary Club of Cadillac where he served as a county commissioner. Jerome also volunteered frequently for the Trinity Lutheran community meals program.



Jerome is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marge, step-children Michelle (Thomas) Wiseman of St. Johns, David Paquette of Florida and Joanne Paquette of Traverse City, eleven grandchildren, Jeffery, Patrick (Lucia), Lesley, Sundee, W. Christopher (Arianna), Ryan (Trisha), Chad, Abby, D. Shane, Spencer, MaKenzie and two special daughters in law, Andrea Slack and Suzanne "Dubbie" Slack, as well as numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Jerome was preceded in death by his two sons, Jerome Jr. and William, a sister Gretel, nephew Peter, grandson Thomas and an infant brother, Jessie.

Visitation will be held at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm today, Monday, July 22 with the service celebrating Jerome's life beginning at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens where he will receive military honors provided by Cherryland VFW Post #2780.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church or to Munson Hospice House c/o Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation.
