Jerry Bohrer

January 19, 1948 — October 6, 2022

Jerry Bohrer, 74, tapped out on his final fight October 6, 2022 with ferocious courage, willpower and determination; he inhaled his last breath with his family by his side "ride or die!"
Born on January 19, 1948 in Traverse City to the late Bert and Janet (Madison), with birth name Gerald Albert Bohrer, he rarely used it or answered to it.
Jerry, a standout high school football athlete for Traverse City Central High School. He exchanged the football pads for a set of golf clubs, a fishing pole and a rifle in his later years. He was an avid golfer that made quite the name for himself on and off the courses. He taught both his son and grandson the correct posture to tee off and also began the teachings of the art of golfing to his granddaughter.
His pride and joy aside from his family was time spent serving our country in the Navy. A four-year term during the Vietnam conflict, Jerry like all things in life, went big. After all, it was that or just stay home.
Jerry was the social glue of the family and also friends. He would always arrive with some of the best smoked meats or wings, he would pull up a stool next to you at Bradley's, the Eagles of Interlochen or some other treasured past time watering holes, or he would simply catch up with you on a golf course. To run into him on any occasion guaranteed a good conversation, a good laugh and an absolute certainty of a friendship for life.
Aside from his true appreciation and love for his family, his faithful side kick Shotzie could be found in the passenger seat of his Camaro. To Jerry, Shotzie was the best passenger; the "bark" never suggested a bad driving move.
Jerry is survived by son Erich (Jocelyn) Bohrer, daughter Michele Fasel, grandchildren; Zach Bohrer (Alie Little) and Mackenzie Bohrer, sister Ruthanne (Ron Agosa), nieces Gabrielle (Frank Zarafonitis) and Madison as well as many extended family members and friends to continue his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael "Mike" Bohrer who passed during the Vietnam Conflict.
In true Jerry form, he has asked that his life be celebrated in the "Jerry" fashion; with laughter, love and of course a few libations.
Jerry, the man, the myth, the legend, and his family are being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
