Jerry Lee Overholt

Jerry Lee Overholt, 92, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday March 10, 2024, at his home.

Jerry was born on July 1, 1931, to the late Leon Noel and Esther Mae (Adams) Overholt. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in the class of 1949. Following High school Jerry attended a few years of College at Davenport University until he enlisted in the United States Airforce. He spent three years stationed in Germany before returning home to Traverse City.

Upon his return he met and fell in love with Barbara Jeanne Boomer at J & S Hamburg. They were united in marriage on October 30, 1954. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful children, Scott, Kenn, Jana and David.

For seventy years Jerry was proudly the second generation to own and operate the family propane
business, Tri-Gas Distributing Company.

Jerry was an avid fisherman on both East and West Bays and enjoyed visiting fish camps all over the United States and Canada.

Jerry was also a talented golfer with an impressively low handicap. His love and devotion to the game began when he caddied at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club, where he became a lifelong member starting in 1958. Together with his wife, Barb, Jerry enjoyed wintering in Arizonia for twenty years and then Florida for the last 19 years where they could play their favorite game, golf, all winter long.

Jerry was an iconic gentleman who was blessed with the privilege of having many good friends though out his life and will be remembered for his hard work ethic, and his love and devotion to his family, golf, fishing and the outdoors.

Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara of 69 years, his brother Robert, his children Scott (Sherry) Overholt, Jana Overholt, and David Overholt, his much-loved grandchildren, Alexis (Christopher) Hoxie, Ashlee (Dan) Ryan, Benn Overholt, Jacob Overholt, Jasmine (Thomas Lynch) Overholt, Tambra Korson, and Isak and Kine Overholt, great-grandchildren, Scottie and Catalina Dillon, Kiersten, Jacqueline, and Edward Ryan, and Aubrianna, Zahara and Emira Hernandez, and many wonderful loving friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Noel Overholt, his son, Kenn Overholt, granddaughter Hailey Desiree Overholt, and sister-in-law Dorothy Samulson-Overholt.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place next to his son Kenn at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
