Traverse City - Stanley James "Jim" Supina Sr., 94, of Traverse City passed away July 21, 2014.
Jim was born on March 9, 1920 in Strawn, TX to the late Peter and Broyne (Brezik) Supina.
Jim attended Michigan Normal College in Ypsilanti. In November of 1941 he entered the United States Army. He served his country honorably in the Papuan and Buna Campaigns in the Asiatic Pacific during WWII. He was one of 12 men to survive from his whole company. Following his discharge from the service in 1945, he became a motorcycle police officer with the Hamtramck police department and was later promoted to Sergeant. On August 8, 1945, Jim married the late Dorothy Maria Nadlicki. Together they made their home and raised three children. After 20 years of service to the community he retired as Captain. Although he had retired, he still felt a passion to serve and became the Executive Director of Security at Harper Grace Hospital. He later retired again after 15 years with the company.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. Above all else, he was a family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, brother Peter Supina and sister Phyllis Marshall.
Stanley is survived by his son Jim (Bonnie) Supina of Lake Ann, daughter Kathy Martyniuk of Romeo, son Greg (Vicky) Supina of Lake Ann, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister Margaret Mihalski of Southfield and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held onSunday, July 27, 2014 from 4 - 7 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at Christ The King Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Graveside services where Stanley will receive full military honors will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
