INTERLOCHEN — Joan Elizabeth Flagg, 72, of Interlochen, beloved wife to Jim and loving mother to Ray and Ron, died July 20, 2011. Joan was born May 26, 1939, in Pennsylvania, to her parents, Robert and Mary Martha Richey. She grew up on the farm with her three brothers, Robert, Donald and Thomas. She met the love of her life, James "Jim" Flagg, as a teenager. They were married on July 21, 1962. They made various homes in Michigan and New York before settling into Howell from 1979 to 2000. They enjoyed living in Interlochen and Sun City, Ariz., after retiring.Joan worked for General Motors and Chevrolet before devoting her life to her most important thing, "Her Family". She cared for and supported them in drag racing, sports, motocross and music.She had a great sense of humor and surprised her friends and family with her comments and quick wit. She was quick to make friends and was liked by all who met her. She always remembered everyone's birthdays and anniversaries. She enjoyed shopping, playing the lottery, reading the newspaper and watching and recording TV. After moving to Interlochen she loved gardening.She was an excellent cook, and her family and friends all enjoyed her elaborate meals. She will always be loved and missed by all who knew her. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Sunday, July 24, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. Deacon Matthew Lyberg will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Munson Hospice House of Traverse City.
