Traverse City - Joan Mathison, 86, of Traverse City passed away February 26, 2016 at Tendercare of Traverse City.

Joan was born on November 1, 1929 in Traverse City to the late John and Anna (Watkoski) Fouch.

Joan graduated from Traverse City High School in 1947.

On September 17, 1949 Joan married Richard F. Mathison who preceded her in death in 1974.

Joan loved to bake and cook. She was famous for her fruit pies and loved to share her baked goods with family and friends. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed working at Kroger, Milliken's, and the Willow's restaurant where she was a part owner. Above all else, Joan loved spending time with her family, especially her siblings.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Richard, sisters Joy Gray and Jackie (Spike) Carlson.

Joan is survived by her children Tom (Denise) Mathison, Susan Desmond, Shelly (Keith) Painter, and Sheila Boomer, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and siblings John (Jeri Rose) Fouch, Jerry (Jessie) Fouch, Julian (Theresa) Fouch, Janet (Neal) Kibby, Jay Fouch, and brother-in-law Russ Gray.

The funeral service celebrating Joan's life will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
