Joan Marie Phillips (JoAnn) age 96, a life time resident of Traverse City was called Home by the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2025. She was born to the late Ronald and Jaunita Breithaupt on September 27, 1928. She married George William Phillips, the love of her life, on June 1, 1947. Together they raised their six children in a place known to the whole family as "The Valley". Joan made her home a place where we all wanted to be. She deeply valued family and togetherness.
Joan loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She actually cut a record when she was 15. When asked what was her favorite song she would say "any song that praises the Lord". Anyone who met her knew how strong her faith was and knew she wanted them to know Jesus too.
Joan has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1956. She sang in the choir, was a member of the Dorcus Society, and served on the alter guild for many years. She was also very involved in Women's Aglow and served on their board.
She is survived by her children; David (Shelly) Coopersville, Michigan, Sharon (Tom) Allan, Sault Ste. Marie, Dan (Jody), Tom (Laura) both of Traverse City, and Mark from Park City Utah. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, George and a son Timothy Phillips.
A memorial service honoring Joan will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to Trinity Lutheran Church.
