Joan J. Richards, 89, of Traverse City, Michigan. Another angel was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Joan Skryzala was born on August 28, 1932 in Grand Rapids, to the late Alfred and Lillian (Ruscik) Skryzala. She married the love of her life, Eugene Richards on September 11, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1994.

Joan had been employed as a cashier with K-Mart for over 20 years and later with Meijer until her retirement. In her free time, Joan enjoyed knitting, going to the casino, working in her yard, ceramics, shopping and attending her grandkids events. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a huge Notre Dame football fan. Above all, spending time with her family and being a grandma was her greatest joy.

Joan is survived by two sons and two daughters; Philip (Kathleen) Richards, Diane (Gary) Cox, Timothy (Kathlinda) Richards and Sandra (Ron) Shanahan. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service honoring Joan will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will officiate. Rite of Committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Resurrection Cemetery, 4100 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, Michigan 49509.
