Joan Julia White, 98, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Dearborn at the home of her son David.

Joan was born in Detroit, MI to the late Andrew and Hazel (Stites) Johnson. She married the late Elmer E. White II on December 20, 1937. Together they raised two sons Elmer III and David.

Joan grew up on the Old Mission Peninsula on her parents cherry farm. She attended a one room grade school and lived in Traverse City most of her life. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church since 1933.

Surviving Joan are her sons; Elmer E. White III of Ann Arbor, David A. White of Dearborn; two grandchildren; Kimberly McCaffery and Lesley Gagnon; four great grandchildren; friend and caregiver Sydney Newman, and many other family members and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer II, and sisters Barbara Hallberg and Patricia Daugherty.

Visitation will take place on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 6 to 8 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

Funeral Services celebrating Joan's life will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11 am in the Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City with additional visitation beginning at 10am

Burial will be next to her husband in Acme Township Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Joan may be made to Central United Methodist Church.
