TRAVERSE CITY — Joanne Carolyn (Blucker) Johnson died peacefully Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City, with her loving husband, Bill by her side. Joanne was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Ludington, the only child of B. Reuben and Helen A. (Dostal) Blucker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ludington and graduated from Ludington High School. She attended Northwestern Medical Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., becoming a hospital lab technician upon graduation.On Dec. 29, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ludington, she married William E. Johnson, who survives. Joanne was a faithful, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Following the birth of her first child she became a full-time homemaker. Joanne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City since 1959, spending countless volunteer hours at Trinity Lutheran School, Vacation Bible School, Dorcas Society, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Altar Guild, choir and many other church activities. She regularly donated blood, reaching a total of 13 gallons.Joanne enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing, and spent many hours and days happily tending to her vegetable garden and extensive flower gardens. After retirement she and Bill enjoyed traveling to see various parts of the United States.In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, James (Joy) and Thomas (Janice), of Traverse City, and Steven (Lisa), of Parker, Colo.; and her grandchildren, Timothy, Kathryn, David, Daniel (Stephanie), Stefanie and Andrew Johnson.A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City. The family will greet visitors from 1 to 2 p.m., immediately preceding the service. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church and School or the Michigan Blood Center.
