Joeann Marie Bissell, age 92, of Traverse City, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Joeann was born on October 13, 1933 in Charlevoix, Michigan to Joseph and Anna (McFadden) Bissell. She had several brothers and sisters and she was the beloved mother of Neil Bissell, all preceding her in death.

Joeann was a woman of faith. She trusted God through every joy and challenge. A longtime member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, the congregation was her second family. She regularly attended the Thursday noon prayer meetings and enjoyed the luncheons afterwards. Joeann served the church in many ways over the years. She didn’t mind doing the simple tasks and always found joy working in the kitchen and spending time with the children. Joeann loved animals having a dog for many years. She collected bird statues, she loved to tell stories of her life and always ended them with a funny Irish saying. She loved to sing, she loved decaffeinated black tea, and she loved the ordinary moments of life.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and her church family who will continue to be blessed by the countless moments they shared.

A private graveside service will be held at Peninsula Township Cemetery and a Memorial Service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Grand Traverse Right to Life.
