Chris was a kind soul who had an insatiable thirst for life and transcended societal limitations through his vibrant love for others. Chris demonstrated this love through compassion, forgiveness and empathy. He always took the extra step to listen, to comprehend and to simply help. He had no patience for prestige, status or expectations. Money was a means to enjoy life with friends and family. He was on a path to enlightenment and that journey continues on...
Chris passed away at the age of 34 on August 25, 2017 after an automobile accident.
Chris was born on November 29, 1982 in Fort Polk, Louisiana while his dad was stationed there with the U.S. Army. After a brief stint in Hawaii and Alabama, Chris' family returned to his mom's home town of Traverse City.
Chris graduated from Traverse City West in 2001. He played football, wrestled and weight lifted throughout high school. In more recent years Chris loved playing Frisbee golf, kayaking and hiking. He enjoyed attending music festivals, cooking and travelling. Chris was also a member of the Gallon Club through the American Red Cross.
Chris is survived by his parents Jon and Johanna Chambers, brother Jon (Karin) Chambers and sister Shannon (Nate Dennis) Chambers; nieces and nephew Annie, Jack, Lucy, Mallory, Adelene, Mia and Phiona; aunts and uncles Jill (Jon) Polmateer, Merrie (Jimmy) Thompson, Mike (Connie) Chambers, Jo (Mike) Smith and Maria (Randy) Caldwell; his grandparents Virgil and Virginia Ritondale and Marilyn Chambers; and many other family members and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his name sake Grandpa Joel Chambers and his maternal grandpa James Thompson.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
