Joseph "Joe" Leon Lowe, 75 of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Joe was born on March 10, 1940, in Grayling, to the late George and Cloya (Rood) Lowe. He married Sandra "Sandy" Sorenson on October 22, 1960. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Julie and Stacy.
Joe honorably served our country and retired from the United States Navy as a Yeoman for 26 dedicated years. He also was an accountant and worked for various firms and non-profits for many years. He was on several boards including the Commission on Aging for 8 years, a Toastmaster for 27 years and the Blair Township Supervisor for 6 years and one year as a trustee.
In his spare time he loved to fish. When he was not fishing he loved to spend time with his family and have coffee with his many friends or a complete stranger. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather that will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Surviving Joe is his wife Sandy of 54 years, children, Julie (Tony) Lawhead, Stacy (Eric) Welch, both of Kingsley, grandchildren, A. J. Lawhead, Sydni Reynolds, Patrick Reynolds, Morgan Welch, Abigeal Welch, siblings, David Lowe, Allen (Mary Ruth) Lowe, Nancy (Frank) Ellis, and many other loving family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held for Joe at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
