John Edwin Barr, age 82, of Traverse City, passed away after a short battle with cancer on February 24th, 2026.
John was born on September 13, 1943 in Traverse City, Michigan. John Graduated from Traverse City Central High School. He began working at Chef Pierre in Traverse City at a young age and continued there for 20 plus years. Then worked at Cherry Growers, Inc where he retired at the age of 70. John was known as a hard worker always willing to work extra hours. John enjoyed being outdoors, hitting the trails on his Razor/ four-wheeler with friends, Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR with his buddies, taking pride in his fresh cut large yard, and most of all enjoying a life full of long lasting friendships.
John will be incredibly missed by his stepson of 40 years, Greg Schaub (Linda); step- grandchildren, Joel Schaub (Christine), Emily Velazquez (Pedro); step great granddaughter, Georgia; sister-in-law, Gloria Olman; nieces and nephews, Lynne, Michael and Brian and their families; and so many beautiful friendships with a list so long we only have room to name just a few; Renee, Glenn and Lynn, Dan and Dee, Don and Mary, Kevin, Shakey, Bill, Kim, Gary and Chris, Matt and Chrissy.
He was preceded in death by his forever loving wife, Georgia Barr (Schaub, Olman); parents, Garth and Gladys Barr; brother, William Barr; stepdaughter, Angie Liquia and her husband Jerry Liquia; and brother-in-law, George Olman.
We would like to thank all of John's Friends for being by his side these last 8 weeks, to the incredible health care workers on the Aspen Wing of Grand Traverse Pavilions and to Munson Hospice.
A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at Interlochen (Bendon) Eagles. Burial will take place on Friday, March 6th, 2026 at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
