Obituary

John James Courtis Jr., 61, of Beulah passed away peacefully with his daughters and his girlfriend by his side on December 29, 2021 at Munson Medical Center.

John was born on November 16, 1960 in Muskegon to the late John James and Julia Ann (St. Amand) Courtis Sr.

He graduated from Belleville High School in 1979. He then went on to earn his associates degree from NMC.

John was a gifted tile installer for over 35 years and the proud owner of JC Tile Company.

His favorite place to be was outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, playing sports, or riding a snowmobile. He also liked to golf, drive his razor, spend time with his grandkids, nieces and nephews and did we mention fish? He loved to fish!

John was preceded in death by his father John, his mother Julia and her husband Chuck Smith who was a devoted stepfather.

John is survived by his daughters Katy (Justin Wheelock) Courtis of Interlochen, Danielle (Jeff Breuhan) Newman of Gaylord and Nicole (Brett) Rahe of Kalkaska; grandchildren Dominick, Saige, Jace and his fourth grandchild Addison Mae due in May; sisters Francine (Tim) Egeler of Dexter; Marina (Bill) Kaufman of Holland and nieces and nephews Jacob, Julia, Madelyn, Zachary, Dayna and Brandon; and his girlfriend Yvonne Swartout.

The memorial gathering celebrating his life will be held in the Spring and a date will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pay it forward in John's honor. Take someone you love fishing or hunting, do a good deed in his name, or simply think of him and smile next time you are outdoors.
