Obituary

John William Eager, resident of Traverse City, MI, formerly of various cities including Interlochen, Lapeer, Metamora and Lake Orion, MI, and also from Blue Springs, Clinton and Lee's Summit, MO, passed away with complications from dementia on August 1, 2024 at 7:04 pm at the age of 81 years.

Born at a farm home in Morgan County, Missouri on 01/08/1943, John was one of 12 children. His family relocated to Clinton, MO where John attended Clinton schools and graduated high school in 1960. It was in school where John met the love of his life, Sharon Rose Martin, and the couple was married on 03/25/1962 in Clinton, Missouri.

Most of his employment was with General Motors where he worked until retirement. John's work attendance was stellar, never missing a day of employment until the births of his grandchildren. He displayed his love and dedication to his family and was an amazing grandpa. He cherished his four grandchildren unconditionally and was so very proud of them.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and construction-related activities. He could build an entire home, which he did early on in Clinton, MO. He built many decks and finished many neighboring basements for friends. His construction knowledge was acquired from his father. When relaxing, he would hunt and fish with his numerous brothers and later his two grandsons and sons-in-law. There are many pictures showing him with big smiles, bounties of large stringers of fish and truck beds lined with quail and pheasant.

Baseball and golf were his favorite sports. He played on a work softball team, coached little league softball, and shared his love of golf with many. He could work on cars, handle just about any home improvement task and was never far away when anyone needed help.

As a Christian, John attended several churches including the First Christian Church in Clinton, Mo. and the Lapeer Free Methodist Church in Lapeer, MI. He served as the Noble Grand with The Oddfellows branch located in Lapeer, Michigan. John carried out the roles of this organization serving the community through friendship, love, and truth, aiding others and making the world a better place for others in need.

John is survived by his spouse, Sharon Rose Eager (Martin), his daughters and their spouses Shannon Kaye Millington (Larry) and Shawn Renae DePlaunty (Brandt), four grandchildren (Makayla Leigh Millington (Kyle), Hunter John DePlaunty (Kalynn), Luke Roger DePlaunty, and Miranda Rose (Millington). Surviving siblings: James Eager; OlaMae Eager (Hoover); Richard Eager; and Mike Eager, all of MO, and Margie Eager (Maxwell) of TX.
