---- — TRAVERSE CITY — John Arnold Egan, 90, of Traverse City, died Oct. 1, 2011, at Munson Medical Center.John was born Jan. 22, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Joseph and Rose (Rathgeb) Egan. On Oct. 30, 1943, John married Yolanda Geneva Kiacz in Flint.After graduating from General Motors Institute, John served our country honorably from 1943-47 as a Naval Officer in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.In 1966, John and Yolanda moved from Birmingham to Traverse City, and have been residents ever since.John was an engineer for Standard Oil — now known as BP — for 33 years.In his spare time, John enjoyed wood working, sailing and fishing. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since 1966.John was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John and Michael; and twin brother, Joseph.John is survived by his wife, Yolanda; his daughters, Sue Egan, Margaret (John) Hori and Barbara Egan; sons, Thomas, Stephen and Robert; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.Visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m.A memorial mass led by Father Jim Hayden will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, also at the church.Memorial contributions may be directed to Immaculate Conception for Mass Intentions or for the food pantry, or to GTACS Tuition Assistance.Please visit
