- John Robert Grigg, 89, of Traverse City passed away August 25, 2014 at his home.

John was born on Wednesday, March 25, 1925 to the late Samuel and Louise (Stillman) Grigg in Highland Park, MI. He married the former Jane M. Sweeney on Saturday, January 9, 1954 in Detroit.

Having served our country as a member of the U. S. Navy, John was especially proud of his service as a submarine veteran of WW II, having served on the U.S.S.Tanosa. He had been employed as a service technician for Detroit Edison for 37 years prior to his retirement. John loved boating, was a member of the Detroit Edison Boat Club, he loved to cook, work with wood and was a "jack of all trades" A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since moving to Traverse City, John also helped many people through the AA program. He especially enjoyed times spent with his family.

John and Jane moved to Traverse City in 2011 to be near family, after having lived in the Detroit area, Harsens Island, MI and spending many winters in Port Charlotte, FL.

John is survived by his wife Jane, his children, Stephen (Gail) of Holly, Kathleen (Dan) Barboza of Traverse City, John R. "Jack" (Lori) of Fenton, Anne (Tim)Donn of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Kelly (Chris) Silkers of Holt, Lisa Grigg of Troy, Sarah Boyd of Traverse City, Elizabeth Brand of Lansing, Veronica, Connor and Haylie Donn, all of Traverse City, Michael Barboza of Arizona and Timothy J. (fiancee Hannah Pugh) Barboza of Washington, D.C. Also surviving is his brother Robert (Rita) of Warren and sister Betty Clark of Texas.
John was preceded in death by his son James P. Grigg (David and Danny Grigg) in 2001.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony Citro presiding. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
