John Manville Heiam, age 78 and Lois Goldstein, age 75 were soul mates that passed away together in a tragic car crash on August 23, 2023.

John was born on July 15, 1945 in Madison, WI. Lois was born on February 21, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Albert and Ethel (Welbur) Goldstein. She is survived by one brother Phillip Goldstein and his family. They were married on May 13, 1978.

John and Lois, were a remarkable couple whose dedication to education touched the lives of countless children. Together, they both earned their master's degrees in education and spent decades sharing their knowledge and nurturing young minds. Their passion for helping others extended far beyond the classroom, as they wholeheartedly embraced a life dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those they encountered. Their legacy of compassion, kindness, and commitment to education and cleaning the Earth will continue to inspire and impact generations to come.

In addition to their teaching their energy and enthusiasm did good in many ways and these included, Sierra Club, TART trails, the Traverse Area Paddle Club, and the Grand Traverse Hiking Club. We are all fortunate to have known them.

A memorial will be held in their honor at 2:30pm on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
