Traverse City - John Calvert "Jack" Malstrom, 86, of Traverse City, formerly of Scottsdale, AZ and Bloomfield Hills, MI., passed away August 30, 2014. Jack was born May 11, 1928 in Detroit, to the late Axel Ludvig and Ethel (Scouler) Malmstrom. He graduated from Redford High School and Lawrence Technological University with a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering degree. He worked for the Cross Company in Fraser, MI., and DME Company in Madison Heights, MI.
In 1954, Jack married Phyllis Jane Bartholomew (deceased) and they had two children; Craig Geoffrey (Sara) Malstrom and Elise Carol (Bill) Auxier. He was a longtime member of the American Contract Bridge League where he achieved the ranking of Gold Life Member, earning over 4200 master points.
He is survived by his two children; five grandchildren, Kellen, Travis and Alec Malstrom, and Maren and Billy Auxier.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.
