Cedar - John Konieczka, 84, of Cedar passed away May 8, 2017 at French Manor South.
John was born on August 7, 1932 in Sagniaw to the late John and Margaret (VanAlstine) Konieczka.
On December 26, 1955 John married the love of his life Kay in Saginaw. She preceded him in death in 2016.
John was a professor of Engineering for the General Motors Institute with 45 years of accredited service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. John also served our country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps for three years.
John enjoyed building his cabin on Lake Leelanau, fishing, sailing, swimming, and skiing with his children. His family has many fond memories of life on the lake. These memories will always be cherished.
John is survived by their children Gregory (Paula) of Traverse City, Cathy (Edward) Griffin of Traverse City, Beth (Bob) Hausler of Saginaw, Bradley (Jackie) of Peoria, AZ, and Joseph (Christi) of Mt. Pleasant, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and siblings Robert (Augusta) Elmwood, Richard (Kathleen), Rev. Fr. Edward, James (Barbara), Margaret (Jose) Dayao, and Harry (Sherry).
John was preceded in death by his wife, sons John and Brian; and siblings Cecilia Ray, Camilla Haskins and Tom Konieczka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May, 13, 2017 at 12 Noon at St. Michaels in Suttons Bay. The rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am and visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
Graveside services will follow at St. Marys of Lake Leelanau.
