TRAVERSE CITY – John R. Leavey, age 73, of Traverse City, MI passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Munson Medical Center.
John was born in Brownwood, Texas on February 14, 1944 to Robert and Bobbette (Meyers) Leavey. While John was still a child, he and his family moved to Ann Arbor.

John was drafted in the United States Army in 1966 and in January of 1969 he was honorably discharged.

John and his family resided in Minnesota, prior to moving to Traverse City in 1984.

John received his associate's degree and worked various jobs including; maintenance, he was a commercial artist in landscaping, and was also a real estate agent.

John married Paula J. (Jankowiak) Leavey on April 22, 2006 in Traverse City, MI.

John was a Eucharistic minister, and helped with funeral luncheons and was a Salvation Army bell ringer. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, birdwatcher, and loved working in the garden.

John is survived by his wife, Paula J. Leavey, Interlochen, sons; Scot Leavey, St. Augustine, FL, William Leavey, Traverse City, stepchildren; John Adams, Charleston, SC, Amy (Paul) Ellowian, Waukegan, IL, and Becky Kutten, Gaylord. John is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and stepson, Joseph Adams.

A visitation for John will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thursday, November 30, 2017 beginning at 4:00 pm until the time of the scripture service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior. Fr Greg McCallum will officiate. Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
