John "Jack" Wesley Mack, Jr., 88, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his home. John was born on April 7, 1930 in Madison, Wisconsin to the late John and Caroline (Brandt) Mack. He married the love of his life, Joyce O. Mortensen on January 11, 1952. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2016. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a PhD in Geophysics. He was an avid Badgers fan. John owned and operated Mack Oil Corp. He truly loved his job and he never really retired. He was a great family man and raised a close tight knit family. Above all, spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
John is survived by three sons, Michael (Sarah) Mack, Robert Mack and Patrick Mack, six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Linda Mack, a brother, Jim (Ruth) Mack as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, John W. Mack III, a sister, Carol Neuhauser, a grandson, Kenneth Plamondon, and great-great-grandson Jaxon Gary.
In accordance with John's wishes a private family service will be held at later date.
