TRAVERSE CITY — John Hamilton McCready, 64, passed away Monday, Aug. 30. John was born on July 6, 1946, in Bay City, and raised in Standish. He lived a full life as a charter fishing captain, pilot, videographer, computer program designer, mortgage broker and aspiring entrepreneur. Most importantly, he was a very loving father. John loved his children very much. He inspired them to always do their best in every aspect of their lives and to inspire the best in others.John was an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed the woods and waters of northern Michigan. Fishing was his passion, especially fly-fishing. He was a life member of Trout Unlimited. John also enjoyed hunting, golfing, camping and photography, and was a master in the kitchen."Dad, wherever we travel in life, you will always be with us in our hearts. You have always stood behind us and supported our decisions, and encouraged us to be the best people we can be. We know you are very proud of us, and we will miss your smile, warm hugs, funny stories and valuable insights."John is survived be his son, Andrew (Jill Bessette) McCready; daughter, Aryn McCready; son, Lucas McCready; his sister, Nancy (Art) Christiansen; nieces, Dee (Christiansen) Mahaffey and Amy (Christiansen) Ash; grandsons, Alex and Tyler McCready; and many wonderful, loving friends and extended family. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Arthur and Betty Ann (Major) McCready.Cremation has taken place per John's wishes. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at Old Mission Peninsula Lighthouse beach to celebrate John's life on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 3 p.m. Dress comfortably casual.
