John F. Ostlund

John F.Ostlund was born on 12-1-1937 in Traverse City, Michigan, to Roy and Ruth (Doig) Ostlund. He was raised on the Old Mission Peninsula. On June 25, 1966, he married Ellen Leone Dean who survives. He passed away on August 11, 2022.

He was a member of the Traverse City fire department for 14 years and spent over 40 years as a pest control operator, known to most people as the Bugman. He served several years on the Michigan Pest Control Association board and was a past president. As a young man he served for three years in the United States Army.

He spent much of his time on Drummond Island and loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved running his beagles. He was a great cook and was known for his wild game dishes. He was proud of his many food plots for the deer on Drummond Island.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Deborah (Dale) Neddo of Maple City, Michigan, his son Michael of Drummond Island, Michigan, and his son Roy of El Cajon, California, five grandchildren, Samantha, Andrew and Aaron Neddo of Maple City, Michigan, Christopher Ostlund and Kendra Morin of California and four great-grand children. Also surviving are a brother LeRoy of Traverse City, Michigan, and a sister Lynn of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kneale.

In accordance with John's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
