John F. Porritt, of Bingham Township, died at Sunrise Senior Living, Cascade Grand Rapids, on November 16, 2016. The son of Fedora Marguerite Hunt Porritt and John W. Porritt, John was born in Alto, Michigan on December 4, 1932. He graduated from Lowell Public High School in 1952, where he excelled in football and track. In 1955 John married his high school sweetheart Nancy Gee. From 1953 to 1955 he served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer in Korea. In 1958 he Graduated from Michigan State University and began his career with R.D. Brooks Builders in both Grand Rapids and Traverse City, then John worked for Garfield Township as building inspector, assessor and zoning administrator and Bingham Township as Supervisor and assessor.
John is survived by his wife Nancy; five children, Greg, Ruth, Beth (David Poore), Jann, and Jeanine (Randy Heibel); five grandchildren, Nathan Porritt, Nicholas Porritt, Lindsey Matro, Jacob Heibel and Gabriel Heibel; and one great-grandchild, Madison Matro.
We, his family, thank Dr. Recchia and his staff, Dr. Burke and his staff, and the nurses and aids at Cherry Hill Haven and Sunrise for their respectful care of John and their kind treatment of us.

A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on November 21, 2016 at 11:00am with a visiting hour one hour prior at the Immaculate Conception Church. John's final resting place will be at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
