Obituary

John Alexander Scott, II, 74, of Elk Rapids passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2012 at his home in Elk Rapids with his wife Linda at his side.

John was born on Wednesday, March 9, 1938 to the late Robert Hamilton and Sarah (Fairhead) Scott in Cambridge, NY.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, John continued his education following his discharge, earning his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
On Friday, May 30, 1986, he married his friend Linda Czarnecki, in a quite ceremony.

Prior to his retirement, John's career was in property management and development; He had a love of boating and taught everyone in his family how to sail and enjoy the water. He was an avid MSU fan, an
excellent cribbage player, and had a great love of classical music. He was an excellent cook and will be remembered for his grilling skills, Thanksgiving turkey with sausage dressing and Prime Rib with Yorkshire pudding. John served the community of Elk Rapids as the Commodore of the Elk Rapids Yacht Club, a member of the Elk Rapids Parks and Recreation Committee, which he helped institute, and the Zoning Board.

Surviving John is his wife Linda; his children, Jeffrey Hamilton Scott of Tucson, AZ, Carolyn Harden of Haslett, Robert McClellan (and Christy) Scott of Tucson; his step daughters, Jennifer (and Chad) Foster of
Toppenish, WA and Sarah McHugh of Clarkson; his beloved grandchildren, Emma, Evan, Clara, Jaxson, Ian, Gracie, Audrey, and Nora; sister Susan
Galbraith of East Jordan and brother Phil Scott of Kingsley, along with many nieces and nephews. He also treasured his best friend Sabi. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00PM on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

A Celebration of John's Life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday,June 16, 2012 also at the Funeral Home.

As John loved to sail and to teach others to sail, the family would suggest any memorial contributions in his name be directed to
Traverse Area Community Sailing so that children can learn how to sail.
