Obituary

---- — ELKHORN, Wis. — John Clyde Terrell, 63, of Traverse City and formerly of Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, while visiting Wisconsin. John was born on Jan. 4, 1948, to the late Clyde and Marilyn (Schwantz) Terrell in Oshkosh, Wis. John proudly served as a member of the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Traverse City, where he would soon meet the love of his life.On May 16, 1970, John entered into marriage with his soul mate, formerly Rosemary Lautner, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City. After leaving the Coast Guard John worked as Security Manager with Kmart in Oshkosh, Wis., and later in Traverse City. He later started his professional career as an advisor for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, formerly AAL. John was a very devout Lutheran, which helped guide him through his life and raise his children with the same Christian values. John's greatest accomplishment was the ability to work from home and spend quality time with his family. John and Rosemary started their family in Wisconsin, John's home state, before making the big move back to Traverse City in 1976.John enjoyed time in the garden with his grandchildren, but much of his time was spent in search of the next "Big Find" of antiques. He had a passion for history and watched his hobby for antiques grow into a family pastime. John would spend the warm weather months at home in the North visiting antique shows with Rosemary and when the snow came, they both headed to the sunny south in Wildwood, Fla., finding many treasures along the way. John loved spending time with his family, from Sunday barbecues and special holidays, to fishing with the grandkids and travel time in the car, John adored their time together. He was a passionate husband, a role model to his children, a loving Bapa to his grandchildren and a great friend to his little brother. He will be deeply missed by a caring family, his church, antique enthusiasts and friends alike.John is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Rosemary Terrell, of Traverse City; two sons, Jeremy (Marcy) Terrell and Andy (Sara) Terrell; his daughter, Holly Terrell and her boyfriend, Matt Washburn; four wonderful grandchildren, Ryan, Lily, Joshua and Quinten; his brother, James "Jim" Terrell, of Appleton, Wis.; and many other loving family members and friends.
