Obituary

John Peter Wagner, 83, died peacefully on November 11, 2017 in the presence of his loving wife and children.


John attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, on an Evans scholarship and graduated with a degree in mathematics. He dedicated his career to serving the health insurance industry, working as an actuary for many years at Blue Cross Blue Shield and retiring as Vice President of Actuarial Services at Triple-S of Puerto Rico.


John led an active life; from a very young age he worked as a caddy and loved playing golf. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved early mornings on Lake Michigan spent salmon fishing. He was passionate about books, art, design and photography, and enjoyed many aspects of the homebuilding and design process, evidenced by two beautiful homes in northern Michigan. As a born-and-bred Chicagoan, John was a longtime Chicago Bears fan and happily attended games (and tailgates) with his sons.


John is survived by his wife, Beth; five children, John Wagner (Lisa), Kathie Price (Todd), Sharon Kozlowski (Scott), Adrienne Wagner and Ian Wagner; and seven grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jessica Wagner, Laura, Thomas and Megan Price, and Matthew and Sarah Kozlowski; sister-in-law Barbara Wagner, nephew Dennis Wagner, Jr. (Juli), nieces Karen Wagner and Christine Smith. He also leaves behind his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Zeus, and many treasured family members, friends and colleagues.


John is preceded in death by his father, John Wagner, his mother, Ann Wagner, and his brother, Dennis Wagner; his father-in-law, Eugene Mrozinski, mother-in-law, Marie Mrozinski and brother-in-law, Richard Cianek.

A Funeral Mass honoring John will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic, 630 S. West Silver Lake Road, Traverse City, Michigan 49685. Rev. Fr. Gregory McCallum will officiate.
