John Amos Zoulek, 89, of Traverse City passed away Monday June 5, 2017 at the Villa at Traverse Point.
John was born on September 23, 1927 in Traverse City to the late Amos "Pete" and Lucille (Donley) Zoulek. He married Audrey Irene Minch on June 7, 1947 in Traverse City at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful children.
Honorably John served our Country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Upon his return he began working as an auto mechanic. He worked for over 30 years at Doug Linder Tire and various other auto stores around town and in Florida. He enjoyed learning about tires, brakes and front ends of vehicles.
John served as President of the Immaculate Conception PTA and on the School Board at St. Francis. He also was a devoted Elk and was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Traverse City Elks Lodge # 323.
In his spare time he enjoyed puzzles of all kinds. Including, crossword, word searches, word games, and jigsaws. He also like to do yard work and occasionally hunting.
When the children were younger the family enjoyed camping and travelling all over. Some of the most memorable trips were to Niagara Falls, Washington DC, New York and Florida.
John will be remembered for his hard work ethic and gentle soul.
Surviving John is his wife Audrey of almost 70 years; daughters, Shirley (Paul) Penney, Kathleen (Richard) Hentschel, Colleen (Donald) Vert; grandchildren Tracy (Paul) Reightley, Sheila Hentschel, Jim (Jamie) Penney, David (Beth) Hentschel, Eric (JoEllen) Vert, Christopher (Jennifer) Vert; great grandchildren, Taylor, Mikayla, Mollie (Brian), Zoey, Ellisa, Donley, Kayla, Brooke, Cody, Bailey, Cheyenne, Owen, Dylan, Sebestian, JJ, Madison; great great grandchildren, Gabriella and Kameron; his sister Mary McDonald, and many other loving family members and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael and his grandson Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Saturday June 17, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Kindly share thoughts and memories with John's family at
