Jon R. Kubesh, age 85, of Interlochen, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Jon was born in Traverse City, Michigan on September 14, 1939. He graduated from Midland High School in 1957, and was proud to be on the first State Championship Football team- Old Number 66. Jon retired from Dow Chemical Company after 28 years of service as a rigger-operator. Jon also spent many years working nights at the Hickory House in Midland; and despite the late nights, his kids all wanted to pick him up from work to get the first taste of the best steak and garlic bread they ever had! Jon was also well-known for his home-made Bohemian-style sauerkraut.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Robertson) Kubesh, his brother-in-law, Darryl Stephison, and his grandson, Michael Smith.

He is survived by his sister, Kathy Stephison of Renton, WA; former spouse Valerie (Munger) Walter of Midland and their children Kelly (Bill) Watters of Germfask, Kenn (Katie) Kubesh of Interlochen, Dawn Byers of Midland, and Lestina (Mark) Ducommun of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

If Dad liked you, he gave you a nickname; so from Gunner, Barney, Boober, and Termite…we love and miss you, Pops.

A time of visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City. A private family graveside service will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
