Joe Hamel of Traverse City, Michigan, age 84, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was born to Glenn and Helen Hamel on July 2, 1939. Joe graduated from Centerline High School in 1957 and served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960.

He married Carol West on March 9, 1963, at St. Hilary Catholic Church n Detroit, Michigan. Joe was best known as "Coho Joe." He loved to fish and was good at it. Joe also enjoyed visiting different casinos.
Together, Joe and Carol raised three daughters; Kimberly, Marie, and Beverly. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife Carol, and their girls, Kimberly Hamel, Marie (Mark) Frimodig, Beverly (Stefan) Hamel-Gravis; six wonderful grandchildren, Kristian (Lindsey), Kendall, Logan (Kasey), Allison (Chris), Sheldon, and Carson; brother David (Sharon) Hamel of Idaho; a loving sister-in-law Sharon Smith of Howell, Michigan; brothers-in-law Art (Sandy) West of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Florida, and Larry (Pat) West of Manchester, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Michigan for their care and compassion during Joe's final days of illness.

Cremation has taken place and his family will have a private memorial at a later date.
