Joseph "Joe" Miles Hanchett , 91, passed away, Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at home due to Parkinsons Disease. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan, May 8, 1931, the son of Bryant Miles and Margaret Lucile (Derr) Hanchett.
On August 27, 1955, Joe married Katharine Lucille Crain, who preceded him in death. Together they raised their four children, David (Deb) Hanchett, Sandra (Stan) Thompson, Jean (Richard) Carmien, and Debra (Donald) Wilcoxen, all who survive. He will be missed by his grandchildren, C.J. (Toni Cebula) Carmien, Greg Thompson, Brian (Swathi Kodiganti) Carmien, Paul (Sarah) Wilcoxen, Dana Thompson, Mark (Zenda Lasao) Hanchett, Nick (Ashley Combs) Hanchett, Josh (Randi Jo) Wilcoxen, Kyle Carmien, Jason (Tiffany) Gee, Jennifer (Beau) Diehl, Andrew (Amanda) Wilcoxen, Alisa (John) Forton and Juliana Thompson. He also is survived by 16 adored great-grandchildren and his brother, Bernard (Jalene Moore) Hanchett and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was welcomed to heaven into the loving arms of his wife, Katharine, his granddaughters Kiersten Carmien and Kristy Hanchett and his brother, Jackson Hanchett.
Joe was a family man and spent many hours with them. He was devoted to Christ. Joe was a member of First Christian Church for over 60 years. He served as Elder, Board Chairman, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and on numerous committees. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. Joe and Katharine enjoyed their travels, visiting numerous states and countries. They spent many years Square Dancing with the Buttons and Bows. He retired as a Sheet Metal Worker. He served honorably during the Korean War with the Army Military Police.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 24, 2022, at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior, at First Christian Church, 3686 South Airport Road W, Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Interment will take place at 10 a.m, Monday, July 25, 2022, in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
