Obituary

Traverse City - On June 15th, 2018, the angels came and took Joseph R. Lamie Sr away from us at age 84, and led him up to heaven. He had suffered a sudden stroke earlier in the week and expired at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 28th 1934 in Lake Leelanau, MI to Joseph Oliver Lamie and Delia Mary Lamie (Plamondon) as the youngest of 9 children. Joe and his loving wife were married in 1955 and raised their family in Traverse City, MI. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years, beginning at Shepard Air Force base in Wichita Falls, TX and then transferred to Croughton Air Force base in North Hamptonshire, England. Then, moved back to the US and served 2 additional years with the Phelps Collins Air National Guard base in Alpena, MI.

Joseph is survived by his dedicated and loving wife Lorraine H. Lamie (Priest) of 63 years. They had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary together on June 4th 2018. He is survived by his 3 children Joseph R. Lamie Jr of Traverse City, Michelle A. (Mikel) Bell of Traverse City and Jeffrey A. Lamie of Knoxville Tennessee. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Morris) Kolarik of Traverse City, his grandchildren Kevin (Dianna) Strieter, Maria Bell, Christopher Bell, all of Traverse City, MI, Geoffrey Lamie of Tennessee and Breanna Lamie of Virginia. He is survived by his great grandchildren Michael Elliott-Strieter, Olivia Strieter, Kayden Kaltenbach-Bell, Gunner Wise as well as many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his mother Delia Mary Lamie (Plamondon) and father Joseph Oliver Lamie of Lake Leelanau, MI, as well as his brother and sisters: Elizabeth Wakulat, Paul Lamie, Richard Lamie, Albertine Sawyer, Mary Jane Gromek, Donald Lamie and Barbara Lyons.

Joe lived a very happy and fulfilled life, dedicated to his family and Jesus. He was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was full of unconditional love and generosity, always wanting to help his family and others, no matter what the sacrifice. He lived by the golden rule with a generous heart and soul. He was an accomplished violinist and played with the Northwestern Symphony orchestra for several years before joining the Air Force. Joe loved his family dearly and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He was proud of his son Joe Jr., who had lived in Chicago and worked in banking for over 30 years. Joe moved back to be closer to his family in 2008 and enjoyed sharing many special times together. He and his wife were greatly blessed with the adoption of their daughter Michelle and son Jeffrey in 1967. He called Michelle "half pint" and she brought much happiness to his life. His son Jeff was the athletic one and become the "handy man" of the family. Joe and Lorraine helped to raise their grandson Kevin and was proud to see him become a pilot. He would join him flying occasionally, as well as work on special projects and activities together. Joe also had a special bond with his Great Granddaughters, Kayden and Olivia. His active family kept him young and full of life. He enjoyed sharing his life's journey with his wife Lorraine and all the places they traveled together and life they built for their family. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, as well enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley music. He loved feeding the birds, mowing the lawn and being outside, as well as doing projects around the house. Joe dedicated his whole life to his relationship with God and the Blessed Mother. He and his family have always been very active members of St Francis parish.

Joe had a very exciting and diverse career, where he wore many hats. He was a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College in 1952. He then joined the US Air Force and then worked several other jobs, until he eventually began working at Toms Food Market West Bay location in 1962. He eventually become the store manager and was a familiar face for many years there. He then went on to the fire alarm business and then finally became a realtor with Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors, where he eventually graduated from Realtors Institute with a GRS designation, after 17 years in the business.

The visitation for Joseph Lamie Sr. will be Friday June 22nd at Reynolds-Jonkhoff funeral home in Traverse City, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm. There will be a Catholic funeral service at St. Francis Church on Saturday June 23rd at 11:00 am, with Fr Ken Stachnik officiating and visitation starting at 10:00 am.
