Joseph Thomas Nixon, 65, of Traverse City passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Munson Hospice House.
Joseph was born on Sunday, February 10, 1952 in Mt. Clemons, MI to the late Harold and Dorothy (Whitman) Nixon. He moved to Traverse City where he was a long time resident of Greenbriar Farms, and later Meadow Hill Adult Nursing. He worked for many years at Goodwill Industries and also loved to help out in the kitchen at Greenbriar Farms. He was a master potato peeler.
Joe was known for his knitting and crocheting. He was able to crochet using only his fingers and created some of the most beautiful, intricate crochet work. Joseph liked to spend time outdoors and enjoyed dancing. He loved his family, especially sisters Virginia and Millie.
He is survived by sisters Mildred "Millie" (Danny) Lawrence of St. Louis, MO, Viriginia "Ginny" (Dan Stowe) Wolf of Traverse City, Patricia (Michael) Hanley of Canton, GA; brother Larry (Nancy) Wieland of Traverse City; nieces and nephews Shaye Gensler, Tami Williams, Corey Broadus and Christy Hickman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephews Kevin Wolf and Jeff Hanley.
Per Joseph's wishes cremation has taken place and private graveside services will take place in the Spring.
