Williamsburg - Joseph Fernand Seguin, 92, of Williamsburg and formerly of Temecula, CA passed away May 5, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions with his family by his side.

Joseph was born on December 5, 1924 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Mary Jane (Joncas) Sequin.

Joseph served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was the first individual to train the original Green Berets. He retired as Sargent First Class Joseph Sequin. Upon discharge he worked for the department of the defense as a negotiator.

Joe married Patricia Ann (Nelson) St. John in 1972 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

In his later years Joe loved to golf and refinish furniture. He also loved music and loved to dance. Joe was also a 32nd degree Mason. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge in California and Traverse City. He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.

Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Patt; children Denise Walan, Patty Seguin, Toni (Dave) Ferris, Renee (Steve) Barkel, Guy (Linda) St. John, Mark (Paula) St. John, Brad (Suzanne) St. John; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and sister Irene.

Joe was preceded in death by his son Dennis and brothers Archie, Raymond, and Leo.

Joe's life will be celebrated on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. He will receive military honors from the United States Army and the VFW Post #2780. The service will be led by Pastor Jose Lopez.
