Obituary

It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Andrew Suchoski, Joe. Joe passed peacefully in his sleep with family by his side in the early morning hours of March 23, 2026. Joe was born on July 25, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Joseph and Sophie Suchoski. Joe married his beloved wife, Judith Suchoski, on December 31, 1960 in Sparta, Michigan.

Joe and Judy moved to Traverse City in 1973 due to Joe's employment with the Department of Treasury. Joe was a dedicated employee whose skills flourished to him becoming a cherished manager and mentor to many of those who followed in his footsteps.

Joe enjoyed spending his off time outdoors fishing and traveling with his family and friends. Joe shared beautiful memories of raising his children with the love of his life. Telling stories of taking his sons to the UP smelt dipping after school, whenever they were running. Joe loved to share his treasured memories of his summers on Beaver Island with his closest friends and precious wife. After the pair had retired, Joe and Judy enjoyed their motorhome and time spent camping and seeing the sights in sunny Florida.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Judith Suchoski, his parents, Joseph and Sophie Suchoski, and many loving pets including Sadie Mae and BG. Joe left behind a loving family of four children: Mark (Julie) Suchoski, Matt (Carla) Suchoski, J.P. Suchoski, and Hope (Steve) Tomlinson. Additionally, Joe is survived by his grandchildren: Chelsea (Matt) Dion, Tyler (Christine) Suchoski, Kirstyn Suchoski, Kyle (Ashley) Kolodisa, Kristen (Paul) Kasper, Yong Xian Goldie Huang; and many great grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Joe further leaves behind his precious cats, Tom and Gerri, who have moved and integrated in with the family beautifully.

Those who knew Joe knew of his heart and that he honored all of those he loved. His infectious laugh and calm presence will be missed dearly.

In accordance with Joe's wishes he will be cremated.

The Suchoski family would like to thank the Grand Traverse Pavilions staff, the Hospice of Michigan staff, as well as those at the Visiting Angels who helped care for Joe in these final months. Your kindness and love will be forever cherished by our family, thank you.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday March 25, 2026 from 4 -5 pm at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of Michigan or Benzie County Animal Shelter.
